Those who wax know! Ah that just waxed feeling, there’s nothing quite like it. The relief that all that hair has gone, and you won’t need to worry about it for at least a month.

Waxing removes hair from the root unlike shaving that just cuts it off at skin level, this means it can take up to 4-6 weeks before you are ready for your next wax. When your hair grows back it will be thinner, sparser and fluffy, not stubbly!

So, what do I need from you? I need 3 weeks growth minimum from your last shave or 4 weeks from your last wax. I need you to exfoliate and moisturise too.. I can’t emphasise enough how important this part is! Well hydrated skin will bear much better results from waxing and you will feel less sting too!

Well, it seems we have a baby boom going on here in Northampton! Congratulations to all the new mothers to be!!

Waxing whilst you are pregnant is completely safe, you may find the treatment more sensitive, but it really depends on you and your pregnancy... everyone is different. We ask that you wait until you have had your 12 week scan and have passed your first trimester, then, you can wax right up to your due date.

We make slight adjustments to the treatment and in your later stages of pregnancy we work around you if mobility is an issue. We advise that you pre book your appointments working back from your due date so you know everything will be neat and tidy for the birth and post birth. Depending on what birth you have you can come back after 8 weeks, check with your midwife though before booking any appointments.

Making a booking @bikiniwaxshack couldn’t be any easier! The website is fully optimised for desktop, tablet and mobiles for a speedy, smooth and hassle-free experience.

When landing on the homepage you can go straight to the booking bot which is a little pink speech bubble in the bottom right of each page, this links through to the mini site where you can book a service, purchase gift cards, packages or access your login if you are already registered with BWS. You can also view the 5 star reviews!

The menu at the top of the website has links to the treatment menu and pricing and here you can click on the ‘you can book here’ buttons which will also take you through to the mini site to make your booking.

Throughout the website you will see ‘you can book here’ buttons so you won’t have to search around or get fed up looking where to book.

You can also make a booking from Facebook and Instagram by going to the account @bikiniwaxshack in both.

On Facebook there is a Book Now button at the top of the page and in the left-hand side menu – this will also link through to the mini site.

On Instagram head to the profile page and the bikiniwaxshack.book.app link in the bio will take you through to the mini site to make your booking.

Coming via Google search or Maps will take you to Bikini Wax Shack’s My Google Business page. Here you can either go to the website or scroll down a little further to ‘Appointments’ and select the book.app link.

I do take telephone enquiries but as I am with clients most of the day I can’t always answer or get back to you straight away.

The Government announcement last night confirmed that close contact services (me!) will potentially be able to reopen from Monday 12th April, this date, however, will be confirmed the week before, so it is still speculative and not 100% guaranteed.

I choose to be positive and that we can go ahead! so online booking is open from Monday 12th April.

If you have been shaving or using hair removal creams during lockdown this is totally fine, absolutely no judgement from me! Just remember that I need a minimum of 3 weeks hair growth to wax you effectively.

If you let it grow, that’s fine too! Please don’t worry about the length of your hair or be embarrassed about having hair, I will trim the hair to the correct length if I need to – if you are going to do this yourself the hair needs to be a minimum of 1cm, a good guide is the length of a grain of rice.

As always, skin preparation and maintenance are going to be the key to great results! Get buffing, scrubbing and moisturising now.. scrub 2-3 times a week and moisturise daily. I am a big fan of using body oil on wet skin after bathing, it really is the quickest, easiest, and most effective way.

Government guidance and my booking conditions regarding Covid-19 remain unchanged. I will continue to provide a ‘Covid Secure’ environment for your protection and mine. I will of course notify you of any changes as and when they become known.

Starting a few days after your waxing appointment (once your skin has settled) GENTLY exfoliate the skin up to 3 times per week using a body mitt, brush, or scrub.⁣

⁣

Moisturise the area every day to keep the skin supple and help the new hairs to grow through normally. Occasionally, even with regular exfoliation and moisturisation people can still get ingrown hairs. In this case a specialised ingrown treatment lotion\oil can be purchased to aid the shedding of dead skin to release those trapped hairs.⁣

⁣

I retail a range of products in store if these are of interest. Prevention is better than cure!⁣

⁣

The first few times you get waxed, you may notice a small amount of regrowth after a week or so. It can take several treatments for your hair to get on a cycle that gives the best results. Hair needs to be at least 1/2 cm long to be waxed, please do not shave, tweeze, or use hair removal cream between your appointments.⁣

⁣

To maintain a smooth appearance, waxing is recommended regularly every 4-6 weeks. Underarm and Facial hair ideally every 2 - 3 weeks.⁣

Here @bikiniwaxshack we operate an over 18’s only policy for any of our waxing services. Although you can have non intimate areas waxed with parental consent and supervision from the age of 14, and unsupervised treatments from the age of 16 with parental consent. we have chosen not to.

One of the reasons we have chosen to do this is due to our appointments being one to one only and at the end of the day under 18’s are still children in the eyes of the law!

I am still amazed to hear some of my clients have been refused certain waxing treatments at some salons... after all it is just an intimate wax and we are in 2020 not 1920, right? After a crazy few week’s tackling lockdown growth and welcoming so many new clients... this weekend I am going to put my feet up and take some time to recharge. My poor husband (who can’t cook\ won’t cook) hasn’t had a decent meal for over 2 weeks and has been living off sandwiches and beans on toast – the work\life balance has definitely been OFF balance.⁣

Start by exfoliating the surface dry skin away, you can use a dry brush or body scrub for this – once the surface dry skin is removed it will be able to absorb moisture. Making a booking @bikiniwaxshack couldn’t be any easier! The website is fully optimised for desktop, tablet and mobiles for a speedy, smooth and hassle-free experience.

When landing on the homepage you can go straight to the booking bot which is a little pink speech bubble in the bottom right of each page, this links through to the mini site where you can book a service, purchase gift cards, packages or access your login if you are already registered with BWS. You can also view the 5 star reviews!

The menu at the top of the page has links to the treatment menu and pricing and here you can click on the ‘you can book here’ buttons which will also take you through to the mini site to make your booking.

Throughout the website you will see ‘you can book here’ buttons so you won’t have to search around or get fed up looking where to book.

You can also make a booking from Facebook and Instagram by going to the account @bikiniwaxshack in both.

On Facebook there is a Book Now button at the top of the page and in the left-hand side menu – this will also link through to the mini site.

On Instagram head to the profile page and the bikiniwaxshack.book.app link in the bio will take you through to the mini site to make your booking.

Coming via Google search or Maps will take you to Bikini Wax Shack’s My Google Business page. Here you can either go to the website or scroll down a little further to ‘Appointments’ and select the book.app link.

I do take telephone enquiries but as I am with clients most of the day I can’t always answer or get back to you straight away. So, yesterday’s announcement was not what the Beauty Industry wanted to hear. I will admit I was not at all happy and slightly confused why not, after all, in our profession hygiene standards and infection prevention are the norm and so much higher than anywhere else outside of a medical setting. We understand and know what needs to be done and it felt as though we were not trusted.

Today I have had time to read the released guidance from the Government and I now fully understand why it is not yet safe for us to open. Yes, it is frustrating especially when the rest of the country seem to be returning to some sort of normality, but it is for the greater good and the safety of others.

As yet we do not have a review date when we can reopen but I envision this to be once the alert level comes down to 2 and we can safely perform our close contact services. Let us hope that is not too far in the future.

I have contacted all clients that had upcoming appointments and rearranged, if you did not receive the email and text then please let me know.

I would like to thank all of my clients for their continued support, kind words and understanding during this time. I am fully aware that without all of you I would not have a business.

This week I was due to go on my annual 2-week holiday but that had to be cancelled due to CoronaVirus ☹

If you are still due to go on yours don’t forget to schedule your waxing appointment. Waxing has longer lasting results than shaving so you won’t have to worry about regrowth. Book 48 hours minimum before your trip so your pores can fully close, and for any redness to subside. Ideally book 2 appointments spaced 4 weeks apart for better results.

For men booking their first chest or back wax I advise 2 appointments minimum as these areas can have a tendency to breakout. Booking 2 appointments will help your skin get used to the waxing process for even better results the second time round.

Bikini Wax Shack will have a Covid-19 prevention policy in place, will retain the highest hygiene standards and will take the safety of all clients seriously.

Why choose Bikini Wax Shack for your post lockdown wax?

Appointment only on a one to one basis - no interaction with any other person during your visit. I use disposable and biodegradable single use spa sheets to cover the treatment couch, single use spatulas so no double dipping, the bin is emptied after each client, medical grade nitrile gloves are worn and sanitised, all equipment and tools used are thoroughly disinfected after each treatment. Tweezers, scissors and clipper blades are rinsed with hot soapy water, cleaned with an antibacterial wipe then placed in a LED steriliser proven to kill 99.9% of bacteria and viruses. The floor is hoovered, and steam cleaned between appointments. Touchpoints such as door handles, handrails and the doorbell are also disinfected between clients for your safety and mine.

I was already doing all of the above before the Coronavirus outbreak as Coronavirus isn’t the only virus you can catch! I pride myself on my hygiene standards.

We are almost there! With a possible return date of 4th July it’s time to let your hair grow out so it is long enough to be waxed. It will need to be at least 3 weeks growth from the last shave so it’s time to put down that razor now. If you didn’t shave and let it grow out that’s even better... you don’t need to trim for intimate waxing before your appointment, we can trim for you and to the perfect length for the best waxing result.

We are still waiting for the reopening date to be confirmed by the Government and guidance on what treatments can be performed, it may be that facial waxing is off the menu initially but we just don’t know yet #watchthisspace

All we do know is it will be different.. there’s no escaping that. If your pubic hair is starting to grow wild, ideally just trim down with clippers or leave it to grow out. This will make your next wax much easier for both of us. Remember to moisturise and exfoliate to keep your skin hydrated and free of dead skin cells. I understand if you feel the need to shave, especially as the weather is warmer but try to leave this for your legs and underarms only... Remember, if you shave now you need to leave it 3 weeks before your next wax.. I’m not going to judge you for shaving though... I understand having hair free skin has a positive effect on wellbeing and feeling good about yourself - do what you need to do. Bikini Wax Shack is a clean and hygienic in-home waxing only salon.

Appointment only on a one to one basis - no interaction with any other person during your visit. I use disposable and biodegradable single use spa sheets to cover the treatment couch, single use spatulas so no double dipping, the bin is emptied after each client, medical grade nitrile gloves are worn and sanitised, all equipment and tools used are thoroughly disinfected after each treatment. Tweezers, scissors and clipper blades are rinsed with hot soapy water, cleaned with an antibacterial wipe then placed in a LED steriliser proven to kill 99.9% of bacteria and viruses. The floor is hoovered, and steam cleaned between appointments. Door handles, handrails and the doorbell are also disinfected between clients for your safety and mine.

I was already doing all of the above before the Coronavirus outbreak as Coronavirus isn’t the only virus you can catch! I pride myself on my hygiene standards. My regular clients already know this and have all mentioned cleanliness and hygiene in the 5 star reviews they have left. I would like to thank my regular clients for supporting my business by keeping their appointments and not cancelling – it really does mean a lot in this difficult time, however, if you experience any of the symptoms get in touch and we can reschedule your appointment for a later date.

I will continue to stay open and follow Government advice.

Hair will grow back finer, lighter, softer and sparser without that stubbly, prickly, spiky feeling. Enjoy hair free skin for longer. With regular waxing your hair gets weaker so each time you wax there is less and less sting. Regular 4 weekly waxes are the way to go but you can extend this to 6 weeks if your hair growth is slower.

If you are thinking of waxing remember to grow out your hair for at least 3 weeks.. not 3 days! The hair needs to be long enough for the wax to grip and have the best chance of it being removed from the root. #rootbulbs removing from the root is ideal as this way the hair has to regenerate from scratch and will take longer to surface again.

Think about your hair like it’s a garden weed... mowing the weed is the same as shaving where it grows back in a few days. Pulling it out from the root makes it stay away for longer #sameprinciple ��

3 weeks is the minimum hair growth from your last shave needed for your wax to be most effective! any shorter and the wax just won't grip those hairs enough to remove fully. This is true for all areas of the body, but I see this a lot, especially for the legs... please leave enough time before booking your wax to avoid wasting your money and any disappointment. Smaller areas I am happy to tweeze the odd hairs left over but I seriously can't do that for large areas like your legs!

Hair needs to be a minimum of 1/4 inch up to 1/2 an inch for waxing to be effective. A good visual guide is the length of a grain of rice or if you can grab the hair with your fingertips the wax will be able to too. Don't worry if the hair is longer as this can be trimmed this to the correct length for you (if required) If you are trimming at home yourself you want it to be grade 2 on the clippers.

The advice I always give to my clients is to exfoliate and moisturise, I cannot emphasise enough the importance of regular skin maintenance for any hair removal.

But why?

Generally, your skin will shed fully every 30 days, your skin cells are constantly regenerating but that process can get out of balance and you can have an excess build-up of dead skin cells. This makes your skin dry, lacklustre and rough - it prevents hair from growing out and causes pimples, bumps and ingrowns, it can also cause waxing to be more painful than it needs to be!

The day before any waxing treatment you should exfoliate, this will remove the dead skin cells allowing the hair to be removed with no restriction from those dead skin cells. Waxing has been around for centuries. Due to the advances in technology, wax and waxing products have advanced and for the better. If your salon uses strip wax on intimate areas, you should be asking yourself why? The only reason I can think of is it is cheaper; it certainly isn’t for your benefit.

Hygiene is also important to note... in the past it was deemed acceptable to use the same spatula throughout a treatment... meaning if an intimate wax was being performed that spatula went from the pot to the intimate area then back into the pot and would only be changed if pinpoint bleeding occurred, although a new spatula would be used for the next client the previous client’s sweat and other secretions would be in the wax pot #Vom #SoDisgusting

So, when you are at your next wax appointment, make a point of looking at what they are doing, are they wearing gloves? is the treatment room clean? Are they double dipping? Are they disinfecting and sterilising their tweezers and scissors? Are they changing out the bin, can you see the previous client’s wax strips? Have they wiped down the bed? Are the pots clean or dripping in wax? These are all things they SHOULD be doing, otherwise it is unacceptable.

Ready to make the change from shaving to waxing? Looking for longer lasting results than shaving or removal creams? Wondering when is the time to book?

For your wax to be most effective you need to let your hair grow out for at least 3 weeks... yes, I know 3 weeks! That can seem a long time especially if you have been used to shaving daily and not used to seeing hair, but stick with it, it’ll be worth it. Winter is the best time to do this, you can cover up during these months so only you will know what you have growing.

For your first wax, prepare your skin beforehand... It'll make the process a lot easier and more effective. Moisturise daily and use a scrub at least 2-3 times a week, just don’t do this on the day of your wax. Removing the dead skin cells will allow the hair to be removed without any resistance and it will be more comfortable. Moisturising will hydrate and soften your skin and make it soft and supple. Drink more water as this will also hydrate your skin, dehydrated skin will cling on to the hairs making it more uncomfortable when removed.

After your wax your hair will grow out finer, lighter, sparser and much softer than after shaving... leave it 4 weeks until your next wax. It can take 3-4 appointments to get all your hair growing in the same cycle, once this is achieved all your hair will be removed at the same time meaning it will stay away for longer.

The EASIEST and quickest way for you to moisturise is to use an oil on wet skin after showering, it literally takes seconds! Dab off with a towel and you are good to go. If you are currently shaving or using hair removal creams there is another way.. Waxing will remove your hair from the root resulting in finer, sparser and even lighter regrowth.

If you are ready to try regular waxing you need a minimum of 3 weeks growth from your last shave (no less!) then it is important to keep to a 4 weekly schedule until all the hair is growing out in the active Anagen stage.. this can take 3-4 sessions. When hair is removed in this active growth stage the hair has to completely regenerate so it basically takes longer to grow out again, leaving you with smoother hair free skin for longer - awesome right!

If you have never been waxed before or you have had a reaction in the past to waxing you will first need to book in for a patch test, this takes less than 5 minutes and is also a good opportunity for you to get comfortable with the treatment room, meet me and ask any questions you may have. The patch test is performed on your inner wrists, a small amount of peelable wax and strip wax will be applied and removed along with the pre and post waxing lotions.. if you have no reaction within 24 hours you are safe to go ahead and book your treatment. Reactions are very rare and unlikely with the high quality advanced wax I use.. it is hypoallergenic and suitable for even the most sensitive skins, it is Vegan and uses synthetic resins so doesn't contain the most common allergens, however, it is a requirement of our insurers and always best to be safe!

3 - Telogen = Resting

Education regarding your waxing appointments is important as it will not only give you the best results going forward, it will also set your expectations on what is normal and achievable for your hair removal sessions. Hair grows in stages usually the growth cycle for each hair is between 4-6 weeks but genetics and hormones can make this cycle longer or shorter for some individuals. Waxing's aim is to remove your hair from the root during the active growing stage (Anagen) thus the hair needs to regenerate completely so stays away for longer during that 4-6 week period.

When you come for your first waxing appointment and you haven't been on a regular waxing schedule, it is safe to assume that not all your hairs will be in this active growing stage. The hairs may be in the second stage (Catagen - transition) or third (Telogen - resting) so what does this mean? let's say you only get waxed once a year before a holiday and shave outside of this period.. Waxing will remove all hairs growing above the skin's surface in the 3 stages stated, but ONLY if it is long enough for the wax to grab, what it won't do is remove the hairs in those 3 stages when they are below the surface or too short. So, expect those hairs under the surface or too short to grow out quicker than the 4-6 week period. Waxing only once a year will not give you smooth hair free skin for 4-6 weeks, this is only achieved when all the hair is removed in the active growth stage and this takes time.

For best results before a holiday you need a minimum of 3 appointments but ideally 4 and the 4th being before you go, you need to think ahead and schedule your appointments, work 48 hours back from your holiday start date and then 4 weekly for your 3rd, 2nd and 1st appointments. Within this waxing schedule you should also be starting your skin maintenance regime.. moisturise daily and exfoliate 2-3 times per week, doing this will rid your skin of dead skin cells, make the waxing more effective, less painful and encourage the hair to grow out without becoming ingrown. Waxing is a commitment but the rewards are definitely worth it! until you wax regularly and put down that razor you will never know your skin's potential.

If you are a shaver you need to leave 3 weeks minimum from your last shave for your first appointment and then 4 weeks for your subsequent appointments for waxing to be the most effective. The winter months are the ideal time to start as you are able to let the hair grow out.

Chest, Back and Face are all common areas that experience breakouts after waxing for the first time. It is advised that you have a minimum of 2 appointments in these areas ahead of an event such as a holiday or big day.

It is common especially on the chest or back to breakout a little after your first wax... by following the post aftercare advice this can be diminished but it doesn't always guarantee that it won't happen at all... the key is to remain consistent with your 4 weekly appointments as your skin WILL acclimatise so on subsequent appointments it won't happen. If you have a back wax just once a year before your holiday, then you will most likely experience breakouts each time.

Plan ahead! book your 2nd appointment 48 hours before the main event and then work back 4 weeks for your 1st appointment. Always bring a clean T-Shirt to change into if you are coming directly from work, don’t go to the Gym for 24 hours after your appointment and follow the aftercare advice!

During your treatment Bikini Wax Shack will do everything possible to minimise any adverse effects. The treatment is hygienic, a fresh clean spa sheet is used on the treatment bed for each client, a fresh pair of nitrile gloves are worn and sanitised, any tools used are disinfected and sanitised, your skin will be cleansed fully before and after the treatment and there is absolutely no double dipping!

You will be advised on your aftercare both verbally during the treatment and by a web link in your sales receipt (read it! It’s for your benefit) the 24\48 hours after your appointment are the most important, your pores will be open for this period and susceptible to bacteria and the associated risk of infection, you need to follow the aftercare advice fully.

The question I get asked most frequently by first time waxers is 'Does it hurt?' I can't lie and say it is completely painless, but I can honestly say hand on heart it isn't the torture you will be imagining!! If you've plucked single hairs out of your nostrils or eyebrows before you know that is eye watering. Waxing a large area at once is completely different... Yes, there is an element of sensitivity but it literally lasts seconds and I personally wouldn’t even describe it as pain. It’s just more of a shock and slight short-lived sting. One of my recent clients said it doesn’t hurt... it just feels weird!

If you are particularly nervous book an early morning appointment. Saves you going all day with the apprehension building!

You can take (if safe for you to do so) a painkiller 30 minutes before your appointment.

Prior to your appointment it is recommended that you follow this advice.

✔ No hair removal creams or shaving for 3 weeks before your appointment.

✔ No Chemical Exfoliants (AHA or BHA products including ingrown hair products) for 48 hours prior to waxing.

✔ No sunbathing, sunbeds or heat treatments for 24 hours beforehand.

✔ No bath oils or body lotions on the day of the appointment itself.

✔ No alcoholic drinks (to calm your nerves) it will make the waxing more uncomfortable due to it being a stimulant (this also applies for a hangover).

✔ No caffeine before the treatment - it will make the waxing more uncomfortable due to it being a stimulant.

✔ No tanning products for 24 hours prior to waxing.

✔ Do - use a body scrub or mitt to gently exfoliate the skin a few days before waxing. This will help to slough off any dead skin cells and lift the hair for better results.

✔ Do - wear clean loose-fitting clothes to your appointment.

If having an intimate wax don’t forget the crease of your leg... this is where I see dry skin and ingrown hairs the most! The more prepared you are the quicker the treatment will be, I won’t need to go over the area multiple times to get those last hairs or reach for the tweezers!

Let it Grow!

Hair needs to be a minimum of 1/4 inch up to 1/2 an inch for waxing to be effective. Shavers need to leave at least 3 weeks from their last shave for best results.

A good visual guide is the length of a grain of rice or if you can grab the hair with your fingertips the wax will be able to too. Don't worry if the hair is longer as we can trim this to the correct length for you. If you are trimming at home yourself you want it to be grade 2.

Thinking about switching from shaving to waxing? sick of stubble and razor rash... Scared of the unknown, will it hurt? decisions, decisions!

Bikini Wax Shack will take the time to make you comfortable, informed and hair free for up to 4 - 6 weeks. How amazing would that be! not having to shave daily.

Before you get waxed you will need to let your hair grow for at least 3 weeks... yes, I know - 3 WEEKS. The hair needs to be long enough for the wax to grip it and it be removed effectively. Before your wax it is advisable to start exfoliating the skin and moisturising daily (just not on the day of your wax) this will help to slough off those dead skin cells and make the wax treatment more comfortable.

Will it hurt? well, we all have different pain thresholds and sensitivities, so what can be painful for one is not for another... whatever your threshold it isn't something unbearable as otherwise nobody would have it done would they! The more waxes you have the finer your hair will become and will be easier to remove each time.

As you have never been waxed before you would need to come in first for a patch test. A patch test is just to determine if you have any allergic reaction to the wax or pre and post lotions used. If all is ok after 24 hours you can be waxed. During the patch test I will be able to answer any of your questions or concerns.

Ingrown Hairs! What Do I Do?

Ingrown Hair Prevention

Ingrown hairs can be unsightly, painful, itchy and embarrassing. The best way to tackle ingrown hairs is prevention, this is far better than waiting to cure them.

The main reason ingrown hairs occur is due to lack of aftercare post waxing - but by adding a couple of steps to your bath time routine will work wonders and keep those pesky ingrowns away.

Ok.. so what do i need to do?

An ingrown hair is a hair that has been unable to penetrate the skin whilst growing, this will be due to dead skin on the skin surface blocking it's exit.. by removing that dead skin you allow the hair to grow out as normal.

You can use the following methods to do this:

Dry Brush
Exfoliating Mitts
Wash Cloth
Body Scrub
Konjac Sponges
Body Puff
Specialised Topical products

Whichever exfoliation method you choose is fine but you need to be consistent with it! once you exfoliate you need to moisturise - one does not work without the other. You should be exfoliating at least 3 times per week and moisturising every day to get good results. There's no point in exfoliating 'extra hard' once a week - in fact this can damage your skin and even exacerbate the issue.

How do I exfoliate?

Let's use dry brushing as an example.. Dry brushing is just that - a dry brush. You can pick these up in most chemists or online for anything up to £20. I sell a dry brush in store for £6 https://www.bikiniwaxshack.com/shop

Using slight pressure gently stroke the brush against the skin in upward movements towards the heart.. you may see as you are brushing a dust appear on the surface.. this is good, this is the dry skin being removed. You don't want to be applying too much pressure as you don't want to cause irritation or damage the skin - you're not scrubbing a dirty pan! Once you have finished dry brushing bathe or shower as normal - don't forget to moisturise afterwards.

You'll notice straight away a difference in your skin and this will only get better with regular skin maintenance. Your skin will feel soft, supple and have a healthy glow. Regular skin maintenance will also help for your next wax, the hairs will be free to be pulled out by the wax without being attached to those dead skin cells.. this means the wax will be more effective and less painful.

My Ingrown Hair is infected

If you get an infected ingrown hair it can be painful! but DON'T pick, squeeze or poke at it with tweezers - you risk scarring and hyperpigmentation. You also run the risk of spreading the infection. You want to use an antiseptic cream or lotion to fight the infection and calm the irritation. nappy creams like Sudocrem or Bepanthen work really well. I retail a Tea Tree and Witch Hazel antiseptic cream Teangi for £3.99 https://www.bikiniwaxshack.com/shop in most cases this will resolve the issue for you. If you find it hasn't cleared or the area has become more inflamed you need to visit your GP as antibiotics may be required.

If you suffer recurrent outbreaks and you are following a skin maintenance routine you are one of the unlucky ones.. But there are specialised products out there that can help. These work by drying/moisturising the skin so it can be removed easier when exfoliating, thus releasing that trapped hair. I retail a couple of products to suit every budget - Fur Ingrown Concentrate for £28 is an intensive moisturising oil packed full of essential oils that penetrate the pores to eradicate dryness, speed up skin healing, soften the hair and calm the irritation, it is suited to even the most sensitive skin. This stuff is great but pricey!

The other is GiGi No Bump for £4.99 this one works slightly differently but will give you the same effect. It contains Salicylic and Glycolic Acids which will penetrate the pore and eat away at the dead skin to unclog it. You can then exfoliate to release the trapped hair. Don't worry although it contain acids they are very small amounts and safe to use.

Hopefully the above has been informative and you now have a better understanding on how to deal with the dreaded ingrown hairs!
